Getting the new season started
Flashes Scrimmages
The "Mighty Flashes" break out their 2008 team with a very good showing against two area Group-2 schools
Once again the Flashes running game seems to be on track. Even though it was only the first scrimmage of the season, and some mistakes were (obviously) made, the Flashes running backs had little trouble moving the ball. Zack "Zee-Man" Carugno had two scores as he broke loose on two long gainers. Sean "Terminator" Harris was like a bull in a china shop as he wreaked destruction on the opposing team's defense.
Speaking of defense, the "Mighty Flashes" looked prety good in that department also. This being the first scrimmage of the season and a tri scrimmage, no scores were kept and there was no punting or kickoffs, so not much can be said for special teams. But watching all three teams compeating against each other it was pretty obvious that the Flashes had the upper hand when matched up against either team both on offense and defense. When the other two teams were matched against each other they seemed fairly even.
Flashes (eventually) sink Destroyers
In a prety evenly played game against a good big strong group 1 team, it took the "Mighty Flashes" a little while to make the proper adjust ments before they were able to slow down a real good running attack. The Flashes running game was on track from the beginning with Marcus "Flash" Rawls, Mike "Mr. Mean" Staton, Kory Kaptian Krash" Linico Sean "Terminator" Harris and Zack "Zee-Man" Carugno breaking off chunks of ground running behind a very young O line that just keeps getting better. The big suprise is the new passing attack that features junior tight end Brian "Lil Big Cat" Watts who had a great catch and run TD. The Destroyers (who played in the North Jersey A Group 1 last year) sport a powerful running game. Running out of a double wing formation behind a big line (with a 309 lb tackle) they gave our "D" line a bit of a problem in the early going. But, the coaches made a few adjustments and gave out some extra encouragement and got the "D" on track. Considering the fact that they had not planed or practiced for that type of offense (originally they were scheduled to play Clayton) it was a good learning experience. Look for some good things to start happening as the young defense continues to gel. All in all it was a good scrimmage and a good test for our young team, going against such an obviously talented team. The second team and the JV team really played well as Dylan Martin, Daquan Chapman, Bobby Braun Zack Lee and Pat "Slippery" Sweeney really looked good. Both the offenses and the defenses showed flashes of brilliance and give assurances of continuing the Flashes "Tradition of Excellence".
